About
about Us
Lion’s Tooth Project inspires immigrant, queer, and BIPOC youth to have more agency over their own wellness, healing, and personal stories. Through photography, herbalism, mentorship, and self-expression youth reconnect to their innate belonging to land, life purpose, and reclaim their power to speak their truth. Offering intentional and youth-led programming we encourage them to explore their identity, understand the world around them, build leadership skills, and define what wellness and healing mean for them.
OUR Story
Lion’s Tooth was named after the common Dandelion / Diente de León. More than just a weed, an ancestral medicinal plant supporting you to stand in your power and speak your truth! It is abundant and resilient, supporting our bodies to process, eliminate, and assimilate what nourishes us and flush out that which doesn’t.
Founded in 2018 as a response to the need immigrant, queer, and BIPOC youth voiced to co-create a space that honors community and ancestral knowledge as a way to reclaim their own agency around their wellness, healing, and personal stories. Young people have systemically been denied the right to make choices around their health, healing, and sense of self/identity. LTP was founded to center youth as leaders of a collective vision where they can connect beyond their struggles, find healing in their legacy and joy, and be their most authentic selves.
ADVISORY CIRCLE
Lion’s Tooth Project Advisory Circle is responsible for oversight of the organization’s operations and guiding LTP’s long-term vision and planning. Comprised of youth leaders, professionals, and community members who offer the guidance necessary to strengthen programming and build organizational capacity to ensure its sustainability. 2022-2023
We are making space to celebrate and reflect on the impact we have had during the past 4 years! And care for ourselves after two years of facilitating spaces during a pandemic that disproportionately affected our communities.
We are piloting what Lion’s Tooth will look like moving forward and restructuring staff roles to ensure the sustainability of our practice.
We are collaborating with others on a smaller scale, prioritizing deeper connections, and shifting away from our year-round programming. This will allow us to center and focus on key collaborations within movement and healing spaces, and key school partnerships.
We continue to celebrate and honor the beautiful connections we have made with hundreds of young people and community members through our drop-in groups and collaborations!
This project keeps ebbing and flowing as needed and is grounded in the intentions that gave path to dreaming up Lion’s Tooth Project.
In gratitude to everyone who has trusted and uplifted our work through the years! We appreciate your continued support and trust.
